Ingredients

  • 8 pieces fresh mozzarella balls about golf ball size
  • 8 pieces black olives for irises
  • 1 red pepper red bell pepper thin slices for veins
  • to taste olive oil optional, for drizzling

Equipment

  • Toothpicks
  • Small spoons or toothpick tools

Method

  1. Prepare all ingredients by slicing the red bell pepper into thin, vein-like strips and placing a black olive in water to soften slightly.
  2. Insert a small knife or toothpick into each mozzarella ball to create a small hollow or just make a tiny indentation on the top surface.
  3. Carefully press a black olive into the indentation on each mozzarella to form the iris of the eyeball, ensuring it stays centered.
  4. Use small pieces of red pepper to gently press and create vein-like lines radiating from the olive iris, for that creepy eye effect.
  5. Thread each decorated mozzarella onto a toothpick, making sure the eye faces upward for a neat presentation.
  6. Arrange the eye bites on a serving platter. Optionally, drizzle with a little olive oil for shine and added flavor.

Notes

To enhance the spooky effect, place the eyeballs on a bed of dark leafy greens or serve alongside other Halloween-themed appetizers.
